![]() ![]() RUSSIA: Moscow must investigate journalist killing in Ingushetia New York, September 1, 2008 — The Committee to Protect Journalists released the following statement today after journalist Mogamed Yevloyev died in police custody. Yevloyev was detained by police as he arrived at Ingushetia's airport and was later found dead from a gunshot wound to the head. “We mourn the death of our colleague Magomed Yevloyev and send our sympathies to his family, colleagues, and friends,” CPJ Executive Director Joel Simon said. “We call on Russian federal authorities to carry out a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation of this killing. Yevloyev has been a persona non grata with Ingushetia authorities because of his Web site’s outspoken criticism of their activities.
